This is a beautifully timeworn valance of 18th century French Ikat fabric!!! A wonderful striped weave too! ~ Gorgeous timeworn , beautifully aged, dark saturated indigo panel! This lovely and LONG valance dates from the 1700s and would have been used as a four poster bed canopy curtain. ~ This panel is constructed using 4 shorter panels, each seam is hand stitched. The bottom edge is scalloped and the top edge shows where this would have been nailed to the bed frame (there are little holes with rust marks where it would have been nailed). ~ LOVELY tones on this panel, one of my favorites ~*~ ~ this lovely piece is a light weight , hand woven cotton. I have freshly laundered this length and it is in great condition considering it's age and size! Ideal for draping, hanging, light pillows, scarves, framing etc ~*~ Beautiful for any timeworn interior ~ ~ ~*~( 640 ) MEASUREMENTS: this panel measures 32 inches long at the longest part of the scallop, 26.5 inches at the shortest part of the scallop, and 202 inches wide. CONDITION : This fabric is freshly laundered. ~ The condition of this piece is best viewed using the zoom feature on the photographs! There are rust marks, small holes, some larger holes you can see in the photos, hand stitched mends are uneven fading. ~ One of my favorites, but not right for anyone needing a perfect condition panel! ~*~ ~*~ ~*~ **** An Ikat fabric is woven using a very complicated dyeing technique. The dyes are applied to the yarns prior to weaving which will create designs on the finished fabric. Depending on the pattern, specific areas of the warp and/or weft threads are are protected from dye to prevent them from absorbing color. When the threads are dyed, each thread will have different color pattern along its length. When the threads are ready for weaving, it is very important to line each thread up perfectly on the loom. The warp thread is first to be set on to the loom, and then one must keep all threads in position very carefully to achieve the desired pattern in the final weaving of the textile. There is natural movement in these threads, which give an slightly feathered, or blurred look to the final textile. Ikat textiles are labor intensive, and wonderful heirloom treasures .
